Ebony’s empowering employment journey
Ebony has autism and schizophrenia. Like so many people with disability she’d ‘never had a paid job before’ but knew she wanted to work in hospitality for an employer who values her uniqueness.
In a world where barriers often overshadow potential, Ebony connected with CVGT Employment to help her find meaningful work. Since October 2022, Ebony has been working in her dream job at the Gorge Restaurant in Launceston.
“The best part of my job is taking responsibility. I like showing initiative. I like learning new things and love learning how to make new foods. Work is very therapeutic,” says Ebony.
CVGT Employment Business Development Consultant Adam had been working with Matson Catering to help diversify their workforce.
“When I introduced Ebony to Miguel, Director of Matson Hospitality Group, they connected straight away. For the first time I saw a real spark in Ebony and knew she was that missing link Matson had been looking for,” Adam says.
Working with CVGT Employment is a great thing for us.

Ebony says that her role at the Gorge Restaurant has been life changing. “I’ve never had a paid job, so it’s been a huge step. Work’s changed me mentally and physically it’s helped me grow.
I am so grateful for this job and CVGT Employment and all their support.
