Building confidence to start a career
Odin struggled with confidence and communication. In October 2024, with the support of his Mum, he joined the Shepparton CVGT Employment Workforce Australia – Transition to Work program.
Determined to make him feel comfortable, Youth Employment Mentor Dakoda began meeting with Odin in the Transition to Work youth room until he felt comfortable enough to meet in the open-plan office.
“Moving our appointments into the main office was big step in boosting Odin’s confidence. Having attended appointments with his Mum in the past, where she would often speak on his behalf, I began to build a relationship with Odin, so he felt comfortable enough to come out of his shell,” Dakoda shares.
Ready to look for work
With a newfound confidence Odin was ready and eager to find a job.
During our regular appointments, we updated his resume, worked on job searching, and applied for jobs. With work readiness as his main goal, I enrolled Odin in the ‘Teamwork and Motivation’ workshop. This group style learning environment was just what Odin needed to start opening up to others.

Mentorship in action
Like many young people, Odin needed to start taking steps towards reliable transport to get to and from work. So, Dakoda arranged driving lessons for him.
” Through Transition to Work funding, I also arranged for him to complete his White Card (or general construction induction card), First Aid Certificate, and Forklift Licence training. Getting these qualifications boosted his confidence and employability,” Dakoda explained.
“I have good news,” Odin texted to mentor Dakoda. “I completed my forklift course, and I now have a forklift licence.”
Still determined to find work, Odin met one-on-one with our Employment Support Mentor, Liam, and Business Development Consultant, David. Through these sessions, he gained valuable insights and feedback about looking for work.
Starting work
Following a successful job interview, Odin proudly started part-time work at Aldi Mooroopna, in March 2025.
“This achievement marked a significant milestone in his journey, celebrating his hard work and determination,” Dakoda said.
I’m very grateful for all the help and assistance you (Dakoda) and CVGT Employment have given me.

“I am pleased to say Odin continues to thrive in his new job,” says Dakoda. “His next goal is to get his drivers licence, with only 12 hours left in his log book, we look forward to supporting him to achieve this goal.”
