CVGT Australia and City of Greater Bendigo
Since 2018, the City of Greater Bendigo and CVGT Australia have been working together to create sustainable employment.
Both organisations consider it an investment in the future – a cost-effective way to deliver long-term, positive development for the community. There is also a shared ambition to support young people on their career journey.
As a leading municipal council in central Victoria, the City of Greater Bendigo offers a wide range of community services. It is the third-largest economic region in Victoria, with a population of 120,000.
To maintain effective operations, the council needed skilled and reliable staff. It also wanted to be proactive in lifting the employment participation rate of people aged 18-24. It was recognised offering apprenticeships or traineeships was the ideal pathway to help this age group into employment. Young people could earn a wage while they learnt and gained a qualification.
As a group training organisation, CVGT Australia employs the apprentice and takes care of the legal and support requirements, navigates government incentives, and ensures the trainee or apprentice gains job training for a nationally recognised qualification.
In the past four years 39 people have been placed, trained and educated under CVGT Australia’s Group Training program, ensuring the City of Greater Bendigo has a sustainable pipeline of skilled and knowledgeable staff.
Working with CVGT, we have been able to leverage their expertise and enhance the likelihood of our apprentices and trainees completing their qualification. They play a key role in addressing the youth employment rate in the Bendigo region.

We appreciate that CVGT is an end-to-end service. They commence our trainees and apprentices, they look after the RTO, and they have a pastoral care facility as part of their service.
Our trainees and apprentices are looked after from a business side, as well as a personal side, which enables them to fit into our teams seamlessly.
The more support, or wraparound services, we provide the trainees and apprentices, the greater success
we have.
The trainee or apprentice can come to CVGT for service they may require that’s outside what the City would normally provide, which allows us to concentrate on supplying the the knowledge they need for their qualification.
