CVGT Employment launches Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan

CVGT Employment has launched its second Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), marking a significant milestone in its Reconciliation journey. CVGT’s RAP Innovate, officially endorsed by Reconciliation Australia, sets out the organisation’s commitment to reconciliation with a number of concrete actions to work towards from August 2024 to August 2026.

“Reconciliation Australia commends CVGT Australia Limited (operating as CVGT Employment) on the formal endorsement of its inaugural Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP),” Chief Executive Officer of Reconciliation Australia, Karen Mundine says in her CVGT Employment Innovate RAP Statement. “Commencing an Innovate RAP is a crucial and rewarding period in an organisation’s reconciliation journey.”

CVGT Employment’s RAP Innovate focuses on four core elements: Relationships, Respect, Opportunities, and Governance. These pillars guide the organisation’s approach to reconciliation, ensuring that its efforts are impactful and sustainable.

Jason Russell, CVGT Employment Chief Executive Officer, expressed his pride in the ongoing commitment to reconciliation. “I congratulate our RAP working group that has worked tirelessly to source feedback from across the organisation and the community in the development of this RAP.”

Our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan has “implementing change” at its foundations and aims to build on and further develop our relationships with communities through mutual respect and understanding.  This Reconciliation Action Plan relies on our values of doing the right thing, finding a way, genuine care, working together and community wellbeing. These values underpin the work we do, the way we do business, and our Vision; ‘opening doors – creating amazing futures’.

In 2021, CVGT Employment took its first steps towards an increased understanding and recognition of First Nations people with the launch of its Reflect RAP. Since then, CVGT Employment has strengthened relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisations such as:

As part of its Reflect RAP, the organisation made significant strides in cultural awareness training for their employees, installation of Acknowledgement of Country plaques and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artwork at its service locations, community event sponsorship including Bendigo NAIDOC Week and First Nations artwork for their corporate uniform.
“The building of our Indigenous Engagement Team has enabled us to establish new relationships that provide a range of skills and perspectives to the organisation, and support innovation, collaboration, and success for our clients,” Aunty Rhonda Penney, CVGT Employment First Nations Coordinator and RAP Working Group Member says. “I am incredibly proud that we now have an amazing piece of original First Nations artwork as part of our work uniform. This is a significant and meaningful addition for us,” says Aunty Rhonda Penney. The artwork, created by Clinton Edwards, a proud Dja Dja Wurrung, Mutti Mutti, and Wamba Wamba man, also features in CVGT’s Innovate RAP design.

Australian workplaces have an important role to play in building a better future between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. “Since 2006, RAPs have provided a framework for organisations to leverage their structures and diverse spheres of influence to support the national reconciliation movement,” Karen Mundine says.

CVGT Australia Limited is part of a strong network of more than 3,000 corporate, government, and not-for-profit organisations that have taken goodwill and intention, and transformed it into action. Implementing an Innovate RAP signals CVGT Australia Limited’s readiness to develop and strengthen relationships, engage staff and stakeholders in reconciliation, and pilot innovative strategies to ensure effective outcomes.

As a not-for-profit employment service provider, the CVGT Employment Innovate RAP serves as a roadmap, sharing the key actions and deliverables CVGT will achieve to advance reconciliation in the years to come.

“We are committed to working together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants to identify and manage the difficulties and challenges being faced every day. We will do this by providing appropriate supports to access career opportunities to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants through our employment programs,” Jason Russell says.
