Established connections support business growth
G&K Weed and Vermin Control is a respected local business servicing clients in the Wangaratta region and across the broader north-east of Victoria.
When the business owners – a husband-and-wife team – are looking for new staff, they work with the local CVGT Employment Wangaratta branch.
“CVGT Employment and G&K have a great relationship currently, but also in the past where we have had some successful participants be employed on suggestion by CVGT,” owner Kylie says.
CVGT Employment have been good in finding those people who want to work and have been good short-listing candidates for us to interview as they have pre-screened and allowed us to get the best options presented to us.
This has saved our business time and money by not having to run around and do all the odds and ends.

Utilising our experience
Recent hire Riley is a great example of this partnership in action.
Riley was a participant in the Workforce Australia – Transition to Work program, which supports young people to find employment or continue their studies.
It quickly became clear Riley was an enthusiastic and resilient young man, and the CVGT Employment team suggested he might be a good fit for G&K, arranging an interview.
“We’ve always told Riley to be himself, work to his strengths and be honest and open,” CVGT Employment Business Development Consultant Jonathan Kaiser says.
“Our advice to Riley prior to attending his interview was to not be worried about the outcome, but to be present in the moment so he has able to deliver the best version of himself the employer.”
Great fit
Pleasingly, the interview was a success, and Riley was on the way to becoming a key member of the G&K team.
“I really like learning new things each day,” Riley says.
“I have found this role supports my growth and encourages me to learn more about the business.”
CVGT Employment assisted with work related clothing, boots and further training required for the role, while also doing regular check-ins to ensure everything builds from strength to strength.
“We work in a lot of remote based areas as this is the main demand geography of our business,” Kylie says.
“Riley is a great fit for our team because he wants to learn, he likes coming to working each day, he is fit and able to handle the workload, and always picks up how the ins and outs of the business operates.”
