Overcoming trauma to forge new path
Rebecca’s employment story is remarkable for the courage and persistence she has shown.
From trauma to triumph, she has rebuilt her skills and found a new career.
Here she talks about her journey, and how CVGT Employment’s ParentsNext team provided the support she needed along the way.
After having my son, I knew I was keen to get back into the workforce. I had always been interested in the health industry. Having completed a pathology certification, I knew I wanted to do more and learn more, so I embarked on a Nursing degree. Currently I’m studying for a Diploma of Nursing.
My career change came after I was diagnosed with PTSD. I suffered a violent attack that occurred on my way home from work six years ago. After a lot of therapy and working on myself, I am now able to participate in society.
My CVGT Employment consultant Lavinia has been utterly incredible. I could not do this without her. Her support is unwavering. Whether it’s a regular phone call to check how I’m going, offer financial assistance or encourage me when I’m having a tough time juggling being a mum and my studies, Lavinia is there to keep me going.
The ParentsNext program has assisted with my study fees, a laptop and fuel to help me attend work placement. I would not have been able to do this without Lavinia’s help.
And that support remains in place. We have continued with our regular phone calls, with Lavinia checking in on me and being available whenever I need. The continued financial assistance is invaluable.
It’s clear Rebecca has a bright future! To learn more about how CVGT Employment can help you overcome any barriers you face and support you to find meaningful employment, contact us on 132 848.
