Riley seizes opportunity to grow
With the support of the CVGT Employment team in Wangaratta, Riley is building his skills and loving his new job.
“I really like learning new things each day,” the 23-year-old says.
“I have found this role supports my growth and encourages me to learn more about the business.”
Needing support
Riley had been struggling to find work, lacking connections in the local business community.
“When job searching, I tended to just walk into business and handed in my resume, asking if they had work,” he says.
“Sometimes they would just say no and send me on my way, other times they would give me an interview.
“I did a general mix of online job applications, but I was always active in my approach to finding work.”
Qualities evident
Those qualities of enthusiasm and persistence were evident when Riley connected with CVGT Employment as a participant in the Workforce Australia – Transition to Work program, which supports young people to find employment or finish their studies.
“Over the past 12 months, the team at CVGT Wangaratta and I assisted Riley on his journey,” CVGT Employment Business Development Consultant, Jonathan Kaiser says.
We concentrated on giving him avenues to support, health services information and workshop training to help build his confidence, resilience, and ability to adapt and handle all aspects of life and employment.

Connections made
The team helped to secure Riley an interview with local business, G&K Weed and Vermin Control.
CVGT Employment and G&K have a great relationship, where we have had some successful participants be employed on suggestion by CVGT.

“We felt our relationship would continue, and we are glad we did as we now have Riley.”
Partnership formed
Riley is a great fit, proving to be a reliable and adaptable employee.
“The main thing I enjoy about the job is, each day is something new and I get to go to a lot of different places and enjoy a lot of the north-east region’s countryside,” Riley says.
I’ve had an awesome experience with the team at CVGT Employment who have been very supportive, fun to be around – they helped me create my resume and helped me build my confidence and ideas to help me promote myself to job opportunities and suggestions to find employment.
Jonathan has helped me a lot moving forward and connected me with G&K, which landed me an interview and that was a success.
